Cross legged on her sofa she smiled serenely to herself as she filed her toenails. The room glowed for her today, sparkles danced from the lights while the edges of everything surrounding her just seemed sharper….more real in a way.
‘Search complete. 243 matches found. Do you wish to refine the search criteria again?’ Scarab’s synthetic tone echoed around the standard pattern Gallente captains quarters.
Reaching forward she retrieved her glass from the table, noticing with childish delight the wine she had spilt earlier had formed a vague butterfly stain on the rug, while adding red purple spots to the off-white fur of her tail.
The dadaayaa wine mix fizzed on her tongue as she savoured the taste, the alcohol lifting her mood as much as the perception altering compounds that accompanied it. As her tea’s effects had lessoned with use she had taken the time to obtain a refined sample of the plants active ingredient. With its potency increased a hundred fold ingesting it alongside something else was the only way she had found to make it palatable
‘That’s going to kill you one day.’
‘I wondered when you were going to finally come see me.’ Malik answered aloud as she looked up to her guest.
Ruros moved from the shadow and regarded herself in the holoscreens reflective surface. Her short hair, red at the roots was dyed black, in contrast to Malik’s own paler hue. Correcting a perceived smudge to her dark lipstick with a fingernail she turned on the spot to before gathering the black fur tail she wore into her arms.
Giving it a critical appraisal you cast a raised eyebrow in Malik’s direction. ‘Really….what were you thinking?’
Mal shrugged as she turned to review the info Scarab had displayed for review.
‘Why now’ she asked simply as her eyes skipped over data.
‘Would you believe it’s because I missed you?’ Ruros replied as she padded round to take a perch on the back of the rooms single sofa.
‘It’s taken this long for you to become sufficiently……enlightened….for me to feel welcome’ she added, casting her eyes over the almost empty bottle at Malik’s feet.
‘Though I would have hoped you would have made an effort had you known I was coming.’
Malik shrugged without looking around, before reaching down to tease at the muscle of her inner thigh.
‘Not as fast as you though hmm….Soldier boy left more than a positive impression did he?’ Ruros peered down at the purple bruise that was starting to make its angry appearance beneath the white cotton shorts Malik still wore.
‘Toxin builds up over time…..you’re not designed to process so much….going to have side effects….soft fruit bruises easily. Perhaps a new body?’ she suggested lightly.
‘I’m attached to this one.’ Malik replied flatly.
‘Of course, no complaints here. A straight laced boring girl would not be worth my company.’
‘So…..what are we doing?’
‘Now you show an interest. Where were you to hold my hand when the nightmares brought me from sleep?’ Malik answered, a hint of anger glimpsed in her tone.
‘I’m searching for the name I dreamt….as you well know.’
‘How quaint. “The name I dreamt”….makes you sound like a crazy sacuyaj.’
Ignoring the dig Mal continued. ‘Trouble is there are thousands of Syblla Felapps’s in the Federation database.’
‘Why Federation?’
‘Just an impression. Colours, shapes….all too….organic….to be anything else.’
‘Not much to go on.
‘No….but I think I’m narrowing it down none the less.’
Ruros moved round to sit on the table in front of Malik, blocking her view of the screens results. Crossing her legs she put on her best pouty face. ‘That’s sooo dull for my first night back.’ Scooping up the glass she delicately sipped its contents, letting the red liquid add to the dark stain already on her lips.
Running a manicured hand over Mals knee she continued ‘Why don’t you go and get cleaned up, brush out your hair and try looking less like a feral thing that’s been living in a bin? Put on that wicked black dress….the one you hid at the back of your wardrobe? Paint your face to match your sin and let’s go find ourselves some fun hmmm?’
‘Maybe later’ Malik replied, leaning round to see past her petulant tormentor.
Red leaned closer, nose to nose, blocking all view again. ‘I’m not going to stop bothering you until you agree….a dance, a drink and maybe a couple of easily impressionable fresh faced recruits are just what the Idama orders no?
Meeting the blue gaze for a second Malik sat back with a sigh. ‘Ok ok you win’ Malik conceded as she pulled the wine glass free from Reds grip. Downing the contents she smiled through now scarlet lips. ‘But only because I missed you, and because you’re a really really bad influence.’
‘Would you have me any other way? No hurry up….and don’t forget to add something daring…if you have anything lacy left that will accommodate this ridiculous tail that is?’
Malik rolled off the sofa and headed for the shower, using her fingers to tease the knots from her hair as she walked.
Now alone, Red turned and fixed her eyes of the sixth name listed on the screen. ‘Plus the longer I can keep you from chasing after devils the happier both our lives will be.’
