The void, an endless expanse of limitless horizons. To most of the human race this description most aptly applies to space. An accurate observation of reality, but observation is reaction. Not all reaction can be routed out of existence though, not by a mortal, or by something that exists at all.
“Do you accept what you see?” My seeker often asked me as we observed. His name was Jacob, and my family had contracted his services for my initial education. Jacob was different from other seekers, he did not blindly spout scripture to explain coincidence. Yet he truly believed. Though sometimes his lack of ‘blindness’ clashed with others who had no such deficiency. He had a bit of a reputation.
Fortunately my family was open to a degree of divergence in the wake of recent events. Recently the Amarr Empire and its principals had been deeply shaken by a defeat that should not have been possible. Jacob pointed out that the empire’s acceptance of what it saw, and what it expected to see led to the tragedy. We had lost our way and become complacent and arrogant. The path had to be changed.
Changing paths is not something normally done by Holders in the Amarr Empire. In fact most Holders take numerable steps to restrict change. Fortunately, crisis is followed by opportunity. A new technology would allow individuals to leave the former boundaries of the mortal coil. Cloning technology had reached perfection and immortality was a viable option.
Thus the Amilupar family decided to make an investment, as many as two dozen members would be enrolled in to the capsuleer program. In this program we each had a single task as survival was now assured, prosper. Though the capsuleer program was a significant financial investment initially, eventual return was practically inevitable. What could not be accomplished with infinite time?
Our resources are not infinite of course, nor is our comprehension. My mandate was to remedy those two facts, as much as possible. Jacob served in the second regard. The mind is an endless expanse of limitless horizons. My mind was also timeless, allowing me to venture to deeper and more profound discoveries. It actually made him rather giddy to contemplate the possibilities of what the capsuleer program could unlock for the Amarr people. “You will be the closest we have come to the mythical Serif”
To remedy my lack of infinite resources I tasked myself with becoming infinitely resourceful. Though mastery of any trade or profession is admirable there are simply too many situations where a single trade is not enough. I am confidently proficient in all of the trades of space faring. I can mine resources, manufacture materials, hunt pirates, and explore new frontiers. Each trade supports the others and gradually I make steps towards mastery. Patience is my ally, I have time.
I am not entirely sure I can say the same for the empire. The addition of capsuleers to the Amarr culture may be too little, too late. Though adoption of the opportunity is increasing, a brief perusal of the headlines show that many mistakes are being repeated. The sleepers encroach on our worlds and we are confident we ae strong enough to remain resolute. ‘God is with us’ the scriptures claim. Jacob prefers to say that God awaits us. He will not protect us for harm, he watches with faith that we will overcome all obstacles to be at his side.
It is a profound distinction, some would even dare to call it heresy, but not directly to a seeker of truth. He knows they whisper though, that they doubt and they fear. How could he not? He would just smile benevolently at it all. Once he noted the common Amarr belief that we had the right to rule over all peoples. A gross misconception he called it, rather we Amarr have an obligation as God’s chosen to guide and lead all people to his light.
God is the ultimate observer, all seeing, all knowing, and accepting it all with faith in his own creations. It is not a position I would ever dare to replace. Rather I force myself to reconcile my immortal mortality, to act instead of react, to enlighten and not enslave, to lead all that would follow beyond the endless expanses of consciousness.
