Angels In The Night:
Chapter I: Stranger In A Suit.
A man in a suit looks at a nervous young man still in his battered gear. "What happened down there?" The young man looks at the man in the suit and begins to tell his tale.
"I wake to find the storms are still here, you can hear the howling roars of the winds even deep in the bunker. I look around and my brothers and sisters in arms sleep, three days of sand and wind, how can they sleep. I joined this outfit just a month ago and I end up getting sent to this hell hole, what luck eh?"
"Sent here on a small drop ship, fifteen of us and the first thing that happens, the drop ship crashes from all this damn wind and sand. three died on the way to the bunker, two more died holding those witches off. The blood of my friend still stains my gloves. You ask what happened? Well they all died, thats what fucking happened. You hired us to go get that damned artifact of yours and caused the death of my friends in arms. I loved them like my own."
The man in the suit looks at the young man "Well davis, it seems was mistaken to trust this mission with you and your team" Davis looks at the stiff man in the suit "Mistaken? Oh no we got that damn thing for you" Davis pulls out a small strange looking, white, spherical, device. "Isnt this what you sent us to get?" The man in the suit takes the device "Hmm you did well, but no one needs to know of this" The man pulls out a pistol and shoots Davis in the head. The man looks at one of his guards "Grab his helmet and recording devices, I want to know what all happened down there" The guard looks at the suited man "What is it that Davis gave you sir?" The man in the suit looks at the guard "Oh it is a key, the key to be exact, it contains a map that is said to lead to a powerful device that will help a certain contact of mine stop the Patriarch from fulfilling his plans." The man in the suit stands "We must hurry and unlock its special secrets"
Chapter II: Sand Storm:
Davis sits on a small drop ship as it falls closer and closer to the planet, The commander known as Crim is looking at young Davis "Nervous boy?" Davis looks up and shakes his head "No Sir, I just have never gone to a unexplored world before. Especially a world as far as this outside of empire space" Crim grins "Well I guess this will be popping that cherry of yours. We are Crimson squad and we go where we are paid to go." The others of the fifteen strong team let out a grunting war cry, Davis looks at the others and then back to Crim and grins "Sir yes sir!"
The drop ship shakes as it hits the atmosphere, the pilot responds over the speakers "Sand storm covers the planet, This will be a bumpy ride crimson" Davis looks at Crim "I heard a capsuleer has already placed a forward operations base on this world for us to operate out of?" Crim nods "Normally I dont like working for those moraless bastards but we are paid too." The pilot again comes over speaker "We are just under 2 kilometers from the F.O.B, prepare for landing." Suddenly the drop ship drops out of the sky as it's systems shut down. "We are going down, all hands prepare for a crash landing." Crim grips the safety rail as the drop ship smashes into the sandy planets terrain.
Crim climbs out of the drop ship with the rest of the squad wind and sand sweep by them crippling their field of view, Crim looks at the squad "I need a sit rep now!" his second in command steps forward "Sir the pilot is dead and two members are injured, Terra has a broken leg and Yuri has a minor concussion with a broken rib" Crim just sighs "Well every mission has its ups and downs, help them get on there feet and make a stilt for Terra, I wont leave a squad member behind." Vex his second in command replies swiftly "Sir yes Sir!"
Crim pulls up his navi tool "the bunker isnt far from here, we can make it on foot." They all start to make their way to the bunker, Vex walks quicker to catch up with Crim who is up front, she looks back at the others and then to Crim "Sir that crash wasnt an accident, when are you going to inform the squad?" Crim looks to Vex "Some of them have probably already figured that out, but they probably have not figured out that we are not alone, what ever took down our ship, knows we are here and is probably watching us." Crim picks up the pace "Quickly now, we must move faster if we want to reach the bunker before that sun is gone, I would guess we only have an hour or two before its night." They all try their best to pick up speed.
Chapter II: First Blood:
As the squad makes their way to the bunker, Terra's leg is completely shot off and she falls to the ground, the squad quickly gets into defensive positions around Terra, 10 seconds go by before they finally hear the sound of the weapon, "SNIPER!" yells Crim "Everyone switch to infrared" Yet they see nothing as the sun disappears over the horizon leaving them in darkness as the sands block out the star light in the sky. Next Yuri falls to the ground, his head completely vaporized and again 10 seconds before the sound is heard, Crim orders the Squad to run for the bunker "Move, Move, Move, The bunker is only a few meters north, leave them we cant stay here, MOVE!" They all run for the bunker while another of the team is cut down from a rogue attack concealed by the windy sands, Davis looks back only to see the squad member quickly fall as a dark figure dashes by them, he has no choice but to ignore the loss and run for his life and to the safety of the bunker.
They arrive at the bunker and seal the doors, Crim looks at the squad to see that three was lost on the way "DAMN IT! This isnt going well, I have never left a squad member behind, dead or alive. Who ever these assholes think they are, they are up against Crimson Squad." The others just stand at attention while trying to catch their breaths, Vex steps foward "Sir I think we could all do with some rest after that." Crim looks to Vex and just nods, "Your all relieved., go take a rest and drink up, we are going to be here for a while until we plan our next move."
Chapter III: The Third Day:
Davis awakes to more howling winds that pass over the bunker, he looks to the squad who are sleeping. "How can they sleep in this noise" He thinks to him self but then he notices that the commander is also awake, looking over charts and planning on how to make the next move, Vex sits along side him. Davis has noticed that the two are unusually close for just a commander and sub commander relationship. Davis has only been with the squad for a month and is still new but he is already starting to figure out that Crim and Vex are acting almost like a couple, but he tries to avoid any wrath that may come from them if he asks or spies.
Crim suddenly stands and turns to the sleeping squad "Alright boys and girls, its time we let you know why we are here and what we plan to do." The squad rolls out of their bunks and stands at attention. Vex steps forward "We are here to retrieve some kind of artifact, our employer says it is located in the mountains north of here and that it is heavily defended, He also mentions that this artifact might be some kind of ancient terran device" The squad starts to look at each other but Crim speaks to get their attention "So... we must take this seriously as our employer is paying us enough to retire if we complete the contract. Now being that this could very well be some kind of ancient terran crap, we must be cautious of who or what is guarding it, I highly doubt our friends were killed by ancient dead terrans, so some one has come here and is probably looking for this thing as well." Vex nods "Yes and with how much our employer is willing to pay us to get it, I expect it to be highly valuable enough for even Sansha's Nation to come for it." One of the squad members raises his hand, Crim addresses him "Yes Imori?" Imori looks at the squad mates around him and then to Crim almost nervous "Why didnt we just land at the mountains if we knew it was there?" Crim smiles "That is the golden questions huh? Well it turns out that our employer hired a capsuleer to do just that, Guess what? His ship was shut down and he crashed, how do you think this bunker got here? It is the dead capsuleer's ship." Some of the squad look around to rethink of where they have been sleeping this whole time. Crim grabs his rifle "Now we must head to the mountains, it just so happens that we have some ground transport in the cargo hold that should get us there by night fall.
Crimson squad board the APC and head for the mountain.
Chapter IV: Night Above The Storming Sands:
The APC climbs up the hills to the mountain, they reach higher and higher till they notice that they have risen above the sand storms that cover the planet, the skies are clear enough to see the nebula that surround the system and the stars that dot the cosmos.
They stop at a massive door on the side of the mountain, Crim climbs out of the APC along with the rest of the squad "This is where it is kept, Strange we ran into no resistance the whole way up here." Vex walks up next to Crim "The door is massive, how are we going to open it?" Crim surveys the door and notices a panel on the side "I bet that is the control panel to open it, Davis your the electronics expert, go see if you can open the door." Davis starts walking to the door "Sir yes Sir" as he approaches the panel it starts to light up, he touches it and it reacts to every motion and touch, he places his palm directly in the center of the panel and it scans his hand, the massive door hums as it slides open. Davis was unnerved by the way the metal felt to his hand, the planet is warm yet the panel was cool to the touch, as if it wasnt effected by the heat at all, it also felt strange and some what alien to him.
The squad makes their way inside the mountain, they notice that the place almost feels like a tomb of some kind, long hall with walls that rise far into the air and come to a point, black and cold the walls and floor seem to produce a mist from contact with the warm air from outside. Davis looks to Imori "have you ever seen anything like this before?" Imori stares at Davis for a minute and then replies with a soft tone "No, I have been in sleeper facilities, Abandoned Jove stations and even Sansha cities, this is something that shouldnt be seen, I feel as if, I am not wanted here, that none of us are even supposed to be here." Davis just continues to walk "If we werent supposed to be here, then why did the door open to us?" Imori stops and turns to Davis "Because we can not truly understand the ones that built it." Davis stopped for a second as well and then looks to Crim and the others who continue on "We need to keep up with the others."
They come up on a large room, low lit and a strange fog moves across the floor, in the center of the room is a small, white, spherical, device. Crim gestures to the squad to stop and hold position "This is the device we are here for, set up a defensive hold on this hall, let none from outside get past you." the squad all reply "Sir yes Sir" Crim looks to Vex, you are in command as I grab the device, hold this ground and make sure no one takes the device, at all costs, you are to get it to our employer, Vex nods silently.
Chapter V: The Witches In The Mountain:
Crim walks to the device slowly, he picks it up and turns to Vex and the others, A woman in black falls from the roof with a sword in her right hand, she hits the ground heavily as Crim turns back to see her, She raises her left hand and fires a partical beam from a triangular device on her palm hitting Crim with enough force to known him back and onto the ground, Vex raises her weapon and fires at the woman in black cloth, her anti matter rounds get stopped by a shield as the woman runs up to Crim. Crim throws the device to Vex as the woman cuts him in two with no effort, her blade's edge glowed blue as it went through, all of Crimson Squad open fire on her but she just disappears into a cloud of black smoke and reappears behind them, they all turn in shock as she cuts down another. The woman shows no emotion in her face, A member in the squad throws a grenade at her out of desperation but she catches it in mid air with her mind and just throws it away from them. Vex orders them to run and fire, the woman is again under fire and again teleports out of the way, another woman drops down as well and they chase the squad out of the mountain. At the exit the APC fires heavy explosives at the women, killing one and injuring the other. She lays their with the lower half of her body blown off, Davis approaches her to end her life with a gun shot to the head but she looks at the young man and speaks with two voices at the same time "You came for the map, you came for information that will ruin your way of life, the darkness can not be stopped once you are in its sight, it will consume your worlds, return the maps to the temple." He can see that she is regrowing her lower half like some kind of super human, Vex orders him to kill her now. Davis fires at her head ending her life.
More witches come running out of the temple this time in strange armor and with powerful rifles lead by a male commander, he barks orders with two voices like the witch Davis just killed, Speaking a strange language they all fire on the squad. Their weapons rip them apart and cripple the APC, it was like the squad was only wearing paper. Davis runs as Imori is blown to bits next to him, pieces of Imori cover Davis as he turns tail and runs as fast as he can from the slaughter. Davis activates his transponder to get a ship to pick him up, hours later he is on a drop ship to see the employer. He sits as he is transported to a station, haunted by the events that took place on that desert world with out a name, deep in space far from empire space, the sight of such technology and beings that can be blown in half and still live, the abilities to use telekinetics and teleport from one location to another, the thought of facing such beings is a nightmare, one he just survived but yet he feels that they let him get away. The words of that witch haunt him, the darkness cant be stopped she said, what is so powerful that even those witches would fear it? Were they even human? Why have we never seen them before? Are they actually witches at all, or just angels that hide in the night?
